The Bangi Learning Centre (LC) recently found a new way to give back to society – it joined a fun community event, the Bandar Baru Bangi Community (BBBC) Free Market! This market is a place where people can give away things they don’t need anymore, and other people can take them for free. It’s all about helping each other out and making the community stronger.

This Free Market happened on 25 January, and it was a great way for families to get ready for back to school, Chinese New Year, and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. People donated lots of things like clothes, shoes, blankets, toys, and household items. The BBBC volunteers made sure everything was in good condition.

This was the third time for the Free Market, but it was the first time the Bangi LC joined in. They didn’t just show up – they helped a lot! They let the market use their parking lot, provided a sound system, food and drinks, and even set up a kids’ zone where children could draw and colour while their parents were at the market.

“We wanted to introduce OUM and work together with local volunteers,” said Siti Haniza Zahari, the LC Director. “This was a good way to meet people from all socio-economic backgrounds in Bangi. We chose to join hands with BBBC because it had a community of its own and we could meet lots of people while the market was open.”

Open from 8 am to 12 pm, the market was a big hit with the locals. BBBC founder, Kelana Putra Muhamad, said the reception was much better than expected. “All the clothes were gone in the first hour!” he said. “Even at 12 pm, people were still bringing things and finding things they liked.”

Even the local Member of Parliament, YB Tuan Syahredzan Johan, came by and gave out mandarin oranges to the attendees.

The Bangi LC has been in Section 7, Bandar Baru Bangi for over 10 years. This Free Market was a team effort, with help from other groups too, like the local council (MPP), the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), Be Kind Malaysia, and Life Line Clothing Malaysia (LLCM). It shows how great it is when everyone works together to help the community.
