We are committed to planting more trees for the planet! On 24 May, we brought our “Save the Earth” CSR campaign to life at the Sungai Rait Forest Reserve in Bakam, Miri.

Held in collaboration with the Sarawak Forest Department and Miri City Council, the event was launched by Miri Deputy Mayor, Tuan Haji Ariffin Mohamad.

Over 100 participants – including our students, alumni, tutors, staff, and volunteers from IBS College – got together and planted 500 forest tree saplings of bintangor, kapuk, meranti and perupok.

The programme also supports Sarawak’s mission to plant a million trees by 2025. And we are not stopping there.

Our President/Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang said it best: “Our goal is to plant 2,500 trees this year, in conjunction with our 25th anniversary in August this year.”

Tuan Haji Ariffin praised OUM’s long-standing efforts in sustainability and called for stronger teamwork across all sectors to drive the green agenda forward.

Since 2012, we have been running CSR programmes that focus on the environment, education, and local communities – and we want to keep the momentum going.

Miri Forestry Officer Liam Dibor reminded everyone why trees matter – they are key to a stable ecosystem and our fight against climate change.

Before Miri, we have taken Save the Earth to Tawau, Sandakan, and Kuching – proving that when it comes to protecting the planet, OUM walks the talk.
