The four new FSSH certificate programmes launched in Putrajaya are short and practical, designed for everyday people who want useful skills, whether for work, community service, or personal growth. You don’t need any formal qualifications for three of the programmes – just curiosity, commitment, and a desire to learn.

Each programme blends theory, hands-on activities, and reflection so learners can apply what they study straight away. Here’s what each programme is about.

Foundation Certificate in Counselling

This 3-month programme gives you a practical starting point to learn about counselling. Developed by OUM academics and professional counsellors, it covers the basics of counselling, the life stages of human beings, effective communication, ethics, and key theoretical approaches such as Humanistic, Behavioural, Cognitive and Reality Therapy.

The learning is interactive – there are group discussions, simulations, case-based assignments, and reflective writing. Modules are in English but live discussions can be bilingual. The final module, “Becoming a Counsellor”, includes a one-day face-to-face session at Menara OUM in Kelana Jaya.

The programme is suitable for school leavers, educators, human resource officers, community volunteers, and even anyone interested in emotional wellbeing and personal development. The first intake will be in November 2025.

Certificate in Mental Health Counselling

This is a deeper, practice-oriented programme focused on mental health issues. Running over 8 months, it introduces psychopathology, trauma, grief, crisis intervention, substance abuse and mental health in school and community settings. You will learn how to spot signs of mental disorders, understand trauma responses, and apply basic interventions in crisis or grief situations.

The programme also requires a one-day face-to-face session at Menara OUM. The main audience includes teachers, welfare officers, caregivers, school counsellors, social workers and HR professionals. However, anyone committed to community mental wellbeing can also apply. The first intake will be in January 2026.

Professional Certificate in Psychology

This certificate is intended for non-psychology graduates who want a foundation in psychology or a pathway to OUM’s Master of Psychology. You will be introduced to major areas of psychology, including social, biological, cognitive, and clinical psychology. The courses are drawn from accredited programmes. The certificate is MQA-accredited and recognised by the Public Service Department (JPA).

The content covers major areas such as social, biological, cognitive and clinical psychology, research methods, statistics, and psychological testing. The programme is fully online and self-paced, using structured learning materials, videos, and assessments. To be eligible for the Master of Psychology, you must also complete 45 credit hours of prerequisite psychology courses. The intake date will be announced soon.

Advanced Certificate in Islamic Studies (Sijil Pengajian Islam Lanjutan)

For those seeking deeper knowledge of Islam, this programme offers a compact, 3-month journey through core Islamic disciplines. Developed in collaboration with Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia, it is delivered mainly in Malay (with relevant Arabic and English terms where needed) and balances theory and practical application.

Modules include Ulum al-Quran, Usul al-Fiqh, Fiqh Ibadah, Fiqh of Daily Life, Akidah, and introductory studies in Hadith and other Islamic sciences. It’s designed for working adults, mosque officers, educators, and anyone keen to strengthen their Islamic knowledge. Delivery is fully online and self-paced. The first intake is in January 2026.
