METEOR Group Launches ESG Initiative
In a significant step towards fostering sustainability and ethical business practices, the METEOR Group marked a historic moment on 19 December by launching its first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative.
ESG is a comprehensive framework which is used to evaluate an organisation’s performance in terms of economic, social, and governance dimensions, reflecting its commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
The launch began with an insightful talk titled “Realising National ESG Goals” delivered by Puan Zanariyah Ali, the Head of ESG, Group Sustainability at SIRIM Berhad. Following this, the Vice President/Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Business Development), Prof Dr Yon Rosli Daud, addressed the audience, emphasising the organisation’s commitment to sustainability.
Among others, he stated, “Small steps, as they say, lead to great journeys. It is with this belief that we are introducing recycling bins in our office building. These bins will be strategically placed at the ground floor lobby, serving as a tangible reminder that every action we take, no matter how small, contributes to a larger impact.”
His speech was followed by the METEOR Group ESG pledge, led by Senior General Manager (Group Internal Audit), Encik Muhammad Syafiq S.M. Abdul Wahid. The pledge outlines the organisation’s dedication to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance excellence. It reads as follows:
We, the staff of METEOR Group, pledge to uphold the highest commitment to practising environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance excellence in every facet of our business operations and strategies, propelling the METEOR Group from good to great.
We promise to care for our planet by using resources wisely, reducing waste, and seeking eco-friendly options for our operations.
We are dedicated to treating people with respect and fairness, supporting our communities, and ensuring that we operate in a way that benefits society.
We will conduct our business honestly and transparently, following all laws and holding ourselves accountable to high ethical standards.
The event concluded with a recycling zone walkthrough, whereby the management and Puan Zanariyah inspected the newly introduced recycling bins at Menara OUM. This initiative aims to encourage responsible waste management practices within the organisation. Staff were also provided with Tupperware to reduce their reliance on plastic food containers.
