OUM Partners with Kazakh University
OUM has entered into a ground-breaking partnership with L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU), one of the highest-ranked universities in Kazakhstan.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed earlier this month to bridge the gap between Malaysia and Central Asia through cutting-edge online learning.
The MoU was formalised during a working trip by ENU’s Vice-Rector for Digitalisation – Digital Officer, Assoc Prof Dr Gulmira Bekmanova, to Malaysia. During her visit, she explored OUM’s advanced digital learning technologies and met with our President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ahmad Izanee Awang, along with other key university leaders.
According to the MoU, both universities will engage in information sharing and capacity building. “The visit to OUM was most productive,” said Dr Gulmira. “A memorandum of cooperation has been signed, and advanced models of online education and IT infrastructure have been studied. These will be useful for our university as models of digitalisation. We also discussed the joint development of online learning and possible cooperation in all areas of university activity.”
The partnership includes the possibility of establishing a Malaysian Language Centre at ENU, which could foster a new wave of cultural understanding between the two countries.
The groundwork for this MoU was laid in April when Prof Izanee, Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Tajudin Md Ninggal (VP/Deputy VC – Academic & Research), and Ms Yeong Chooi May (Head, International Partnership Unit) visited ENU. This trip sparked discussions on collaboration, now blossoming into a reality.
As a local university with a global outlook, OUM has strategic partnerships and learners in six other countries – Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Ghana, and Somalia. Besides our 100,000 local graduates, we also have approximately 8,000 foreign graduates.
