With the Merdeka spirit still running high, OUM held a special programme on 8 September to celebrate the occasion and reach out to the community.
The Kembara Merdeka OUM–KTMB 2025 team boarded an ETS train from KL Sentral to Ipoh, handing out goodie bags to fellow passengers along the way. Each bag included a Jalur Gemilang and OUM souvenirs to spread cheer and national pride.
Once in Ipoh, the team visited the Ipoh & Greenhill Learning Centre to deliver essential items to four local charities:
- Yayasan Amanah An-Nur Maisarah
• Rumah Budi Mulia Nurul Huda
• Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Yatim Arut Perum Jothy
• Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Kasih Sayang Ipoh Perak
This effort was made possible through the support of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), and Picasso Sdn Bhd.
The event was attended by OUM Vice President/Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Business Development) Prof Dr Yon Rosli Daud and OUM Vice President/Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learner Experience & Technology) Prof Datin Dr Santhi Raghavan.
Prof Yon Rosli said: “As a digital university, we believe education must touch hearts and bring real benefits to the community. Through this collaboration with KTMB, RAC and our corporate partner Picasso, we are building bridges that strengthen unity and compassion.”
He also thanked all partners, sponsors, and NGOs for their support and contributions.
The programme showed how academia and industry can work together to honour Malaysia’s independence while making a difference in people’s lives.
