Did you know that as of this year, there are more than 50 universities and colleges offering Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes in Malaysia? If you’re a working professional interested in pursuing an MBA to advance your career, it can be tough to decide which institution to sign up with. You might be asking yourself – “Can I pursue the MBA while continuing to work?” or “Will it provide the knowledge I need?”
OUM offers an MBA programme, too. But with so many options available, what makes the OUM MBA stand out? Here are some compelling reasons to consider it:
- Your Work Experience is Recognised
You can get into the programme if you have a relevant bachelor’s degree. But what if you don’t? Could you still get in the door? The answer is a delightful yes. At OUM, we also accept students who have sufficient and relevant work experience, through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) pathway.
To apply, you can get an APEL.A certificate from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The details are provided here:

Want to know something even more thrilling? If you have 20 or more years of relevant working experience, you can get the MBA degree through an alternative route!
Instead of the usual coursework and research, you just have to come up with a portfolio, excel in a field and validation visit, take a challenge test, and complete a few capstone courses. For more details, you can click here: https://apel.oum.edu.my/programmes/master-of-business-administration/
In short, we enable you to turn your professional experience into a fast-track MBA qualification with OUM.
- Various Specialisations to Choose From
If you would like to specialise in a particular area, there are 7 options – marketing, entrepreneurship, human resources, Islamic finance, conventional finance, project management, and healthcare management. However, if you’d rather not specialise, and prefer to be a jack of all trades, you can opt for a general MBA. You get to choose what works for you.
- Designed for Working Professionals
Let’s face it, in today’s world, no one’s got enough time to do all that we want. Oftentimes, we are forced to prioritise the daily grind over our goals. If you are feeling swamped by tight schedules but know that an MBA is key to stepping up at work, OUM’s flexible mode of learning is definitely worth considering.
Our MBA takes up just 2 years, or 6 semesters. You need to take only 10 core subjects and 2 elective subjects and complete 1 master’s project paper. To lighten your load, all the classes, assignments and exams can be handled online.
The virtual face-to-face classes are conducted on weekends or in the evenings. So, you don’t have to battle traffic or tweak your daily schedule to attend any physical classes. As for the assessment, 50% of the subjects are fully assignment-based while another 50% combine assignments and exams.
- A Pathway for Business Enthusiasts
The 10 core courses are managerial economics, organisation and business management, accounting for business decision making, marketing management, managerial finance, business law, business research methods, human resource management, strategic management, and IT for managers.
These courses will help to sharpen your expertise in the field of business. According to the Programme Director, Dr Abdul Mutalib Mohamed Azim, you’ll acquire a thorough comprehension of the core ideas and methods that successful professionals and businesses follow.
“You’ll also be able to apply your newly acquired abilities in real-world situations. Our MBA helps you build the flexibility you need to adapt to business transitions, whether it’s from digital disruption or rapidly changing market conditions,” he said.
However, even if you are new to business, there’s no problem as the MBA is suitable for anyone eager to master the art of business administration, regardless of your academic background.
- Recognised by Professional Body
Besides being accredited by the MQA, our MBA is also recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a globally renowned body that sets standards for the management profession and is the only one authorised to confer chartered status. Our MBA students have the chance to become fully affiliated with CMI at any point during their courses and afterwards, with no extra effort required.
- Wide Range of Career Opportunities
An MBA opens doors to diverse career paths. Said Dr Abdul Mutalib, “You can step into managerial roles in fields like business, finance, public or customer relations, marketing, recruitment, training, sales, project management, and healthcare. It’s also an invaluable asset for aspiring entrepreneurs.”
