Season of Sharing and Caring
By the time you read this, Hari Raya Aidilfitri would have already ended (yes, we know that for some people, the month-long fast is followed by a month-long feast. We understand it’s difficult to stop gorging on traditional delicacies and crunchy cookies once you get started!).
As we know, Ramadan is a month of immense blessings and besides increasing our religious practices, giving to charity is one of the best ways we can show support for our fellow humanity.
Kelab METEOR, which organises activities for the staff, carried out three pahala-inducing activities at the Main Campus in Kelana Jaya during the holy month. The first was an inaugural tadarus programme which began on 27 March. A total of 41 staff, divided into 7 groups, finished 4 chapters in 12 days. A Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was held on 17 April, with bunga telur and pulut kuning.
On 6 April, the club distributed what everyone liked – free food! It came in the form of 1,200 packs of bubur lambuk for all staff as well as our neighbours in Kelana Centre Point. The porridge, which was ordered through Masjid Tengku Kelana Jaya Petra, surely helped to partly solve the biggest Ramadan crisis – deciding what to eat for buka puasa – for that day.
The following week, on 12 April, the club gifted a welfare home in Selangor, Rumah Cahaya Kasih, with a washing machine. The Sharp washer could handle a 20kg load, which will go a long way towards making sure the home’s 40 children aged 3 to 7 will always have clean clothes to wear. The children also received duit raya, bringing a smile to their faces.
On 17 April, it was the University’s turn to brighten the day for little children living in a welfare home. A delegation led by Registrar, Prof Dr Siti Aishah Hashim Ali, visited Rumah Sentuhan Budi in Selangor, bearing gifts. They presented the home’s 22 girls with new clothes and shoes as well as duit raya.
Our lives are more fulfilling when we give and share, and that great inner joy comes from helping others to better their lives. Here’s looking forward to the next Ramadan!
