Studying with limited vision has never been easy for me. I depend only on my right eye, and even that is about 30% vision. There were days when reading for long hours gave me headaches and eye strain, and I honestly questioned whether I could keep going. But OUM made the journey manageable.
The flexibility of OUM’s learning system helped me the most. Since much of the learning materials were digital, I could zoom in, enlarge the text, and use assistive tools that suited my condition. I could study at my own pace, especially on days when my eye felt tired. My lecturers were also understanding whenever I needed a little more time or clarification. I never felt judged or treated differently. Instead, I felt respected and supported.
OUM didn’t just give me an education – it gave me the confidence to believe that my visual limitation does not stop me from achieving something meaningful.
My advice to others in the blind community on furthering their education is simple: don’t let your condition decide your future. I know it’s not easy. There are physical challenges, emotional struggles, and sometimes people may doubt your ability. But you must not doubt yourself.
Use whatever tools and support systems are available. Ask for help when you need it – there is no shame in that. Choose a learning environment that understands your situation. Most importantly, be patient with yourself. Progress may feel slower, but it is still progress.
If I can complete my studies relying on just 30% vision in one eye, I truly believe others can pursue their dreams too. Our eyesight may be limited, but our determination doesn’t have to be.
Thank you.
