Uniting Minds, Inspiring Hearts
Our Learning is Fun (LIF) programme is back on the road! This is our very own unique edutainment programme for schools throughout Malaysia. This time, we joined hands with Sekretariat Malaysia Prihatin, an NGO whose patron, YABhg Tun Jeanne Abdullah, is also our corporate social responsibility (CSR) patron.
The LIF lifted off in Kepala Batas with 60 children from three schools – SK Permatang Bertam (the venue), SK Bertam Indah and SK Hashim Awang – on Saturday 25 November.
Leading our team was our President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang. Our Registrar, Prof Dr Siti Aishah Hashim Ali, got the games going with a Maths Hunt and then a session on presentation skills and information-seeking using laptops.
For the teachers, we brought in a speaker from IPG Kampus Darul Aman to share tips on teaching skills for the 21st century. With kids advancing so fast these days, it helps to learn new tips and techniques, right?
For youths wondering what to do after leaving school, we had our Marketing Director, Encik Yazed Bahaman, speak to them about our fully online MQA-certified programmes. The teens also took part in a fun activity conducted jointly by Jabatan Belia Malaysia and Sekretariat Malaysia Prihatin.
The next day, we planted the seeds of healthy eating through a new programme called Kebun Komuniti. The OUM team and Sekretariat Malaysia Prihatin organised this gardening special at Desa KEDA Tepi Sungai, Kota Kuala Muda, Kedah.
We were thrilled to have roughly 50 enthusiastic villagers rise to the occasion. They planted the seedlings of brinjals, chillies, chives, ladies’ fingers, lemongrass and turmeric. Some young children joined in the fun as well. One day soon, that humble ground is going to become a herb garden, providing a sustainable source of kitchen staples for the villagers.
Looking ahead, the success of these two programmes sets the stage for more such initiatives in the coming year, as we strive to extend our outreach to diverse communities across Malaysia.
