Our 31st Convocation (MK31) has ended after 4 busy days at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). The venue was filled with proud graduates, cheering families and friends, all there to celebrate this milestone.
Our Chancellor, Tan Sri Azman Hashim, and President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang, graced all 7 sessions to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class.
But before the first graduate walked onto the stage, OUM staff from various departments had already spent months preparing for the event.
The main organising committee and working groups coordinated everything from venue preparations and technical support to invitations, protocol, guest reception and academic attire.
Each team had its own responsibilities. The logistics team prepared the venue, while the technical crew managed the audio-visual requirements. The smart card and procession teams helped graduates prepare for their turn on stage, while ushers welcomed guests and guided them throughout the event. Other teams handled multimedia presentations, security, academic robes and scroll preparation.
Though carried out behind the scenes, these tasks directly shaped the graduates’ experience. A well-managed procession kept graduates moving smoothly, prepared scrolls helped the ceremony run as planned, and ushers made it easier for graduates and their families to find their way around.
Organising an event of this scale also brought challenges. Last-minute changes and unexpected issues called for quick decisions, close coordination and staff ready to step in wherever needed. Some worked beyond office hours to ensure everything was ready for the next session.
For the graduates, these 4 days marked the culmination of years spent balancing studies with work, family and other responsibilities. They came to receive their scrolls and celebrate with those who had supported them along the way. The staff’s role was to make that moment as smooth and memorable as possible.
To all staff who joined hands to make MK31 possible, thank you. Whether you coordinated the programme, prepared the venue, guided graduates or resolved last-minute issues, your contribution helped make the convocation a success.
The graduates took the stage, but it took a team effort to get them there.
For our current learners, MK31 offers a glimpse of what lies ahead. One day, you too could be walking across that stage, celebrating the achievement you have worked so hard for. And when that day comes, we will be there to help make it a memorable one.
