OUM and WBS Working Together to Empower Women
OUM and Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic collaboration that will pave the way for the establishment of joint academic and research initiatives between the two institutions.
Under the agreement that was signed on 4 May, the Selangor state government, through WBS, has agreed to sponsor ten women to pursue higher education at OUM under the Lifelong Learning Programme. The scholarship is at the tune of RM200,000 that covers the tuition fees during the duration of their studies.
Six scholarship recipients will sign up for diploma programmes while the remaining will enrol in bachelor’s degree programmes at OUM for the May 2021 semester.
OUM President/Vice-Chancellor YBhg Prof Dato’ Dr Mansor Fadzil signed on behalf of the University, while WBS was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki.
The ceremony took place at the state government office in Shah Alam. Also present were Selangor Chief Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, and Selangor Public Health, Unity, Women and Family Development Committee Chairperson YB Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
The scholarship is part of WBS’ efforts to realise the Selangor Women Policy in enhancing women’s empowerment through three key areas under the Think Tank, Capacity Development and Women Empowerment Programme. WBS aims to fully support women’s development in various economic, social, educational and cultural aspects, which will ultimately benefit the society.
The collaboration between OUM and WBS will provide a tremendous boost to enhance the capability and intellectual capacity of WBS’ members besides providing them with the competitive advantage to master different areas of business and management, applied sciences, as well as education and social sciences.
