Research Webinar Shares Findings from Six Experts
The Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) recently held an online research webinar on 29 November. The webinar gave six academics the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise in various topics, all of which reflected research work that had been funded by the University’s internal research grant.
The aim of the event is to showcase the research areas and experts with OUM’s postgraduate learners.
Each speaker was given 15 minutes to present their findings, followed by a five-minute question-and-answer session. Approximately 90 academics and postgraduate learners tuned in via the Google Meet platform.
The two-and-a-half-hour programme was opened by Vice President (Academic) Prof Dr Widad Othman and moderated by CRI Director Dr Thirumeni T Subramaniam. Counselling expert from the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences (FESS) Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Tajudin Md Ninggal kicked off the webinar with his presentation entitled, Do First-Year Undergraduates Highly Motivated, Self-Directed and Possessed Online Learning Skills During Study from Home?.
Next to present was lecturer from the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) Azlina Abdul Aziz, who presented on behalf of a research group led by Dr Mohd Nazri Mohd Noor. She delivered a presentation on Effective Market Segmentation Strategy for Open Distance Learning Institution. Meanwhile, Dean of FESS Dr Aliza Ali presented the topic The Development of Higher Education Programme.

After a short 10-minute break, the session resumed with Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences Dr Raziana Che Aziz, who discussed the topic An Impact Study of OUM 21st Century Learning Module. This was followed by Senior Lecturer at FBM and Acting Financial Controller Dr Zahir Osman, who shared the findings of a study on Antecedents of Online Engagement among Online Distance Learning Institutions’ Students in Malaysia.

Senior Lecturer at FESS Dr Hamidah Mat wrapped up the webinar with her presentation entitled Intention to Choose Shariah Compliant Hospital: The Role of Religiosity.
As OUM’s research management centre, CRI manages research undertakings by academic staff at the University. It also governs all processes related to research grants, and regularly conducts research workshops and seminar series for capacity development in research and innovation.
