Thank You for a Job Well Done!
Four days. Eight sessions. Approximately 5,000 graduates. Those were the figures faced by the University’s organising committee for last October’s convocation.
Months of preparation ensued. The committee worked meticulously on diverse aspects of the convocation. Graduation robes and smart cards were prepared. Creative and digital multimedia were developed. Valedictorians were selected for the first and final sessions. Speeches were written and programme books were published.
Physical and technical elements, logistics, and myriad other event management components were also assembled and coordinated. Each aspect needed and received care, attention, and skill.
To the delight of everyone who had stayed back, stayed up, and stayed on, the convocation turned out to be a striking success. In appreciation for their solid teamwork, professionalism, and expert handling of tricky situations, the University threw the organising committee an appreciation dinner on 15 December.
Taking place at the Le Meridien Hotel Petaling Jaya in Selangor, the dinner was graced by Chancellor Tun Jeanne Abdullah, Pro Chancellor Tan Sri Azman Hashim, and Chairman of the Board of Governors Tan Sri (Dr) Lee Lam Thye.
Tan Sri Azman gamely showed his singing prowess, belting out a string of golden oldies. The joviality of the occasion increased further when Tan Sri Lee cut a birthday cake, as he turns 76 this month. The friendly banter all around and mouth-watering food put everyone in high spirits.
Suffice to say, the staff had a marvellous time, in recognition of their hard work. Thank you to all and hope we can make the next convocation just as great or even better!
