This Convocation, we have 6 award winners in 4 categories: Chancellor’s Award, Vice-Chancellor’s Awards, Lifelong Learning Award, and MSOSH Academic Awards.
Chancellor’s Award – 1 recipient
The recipient is a Bachelor’s graduate distinguished for excellence in knowledge, leadership, or community service.
In the past, I approached patient care mainly from the perspective of an Occupational Therapist. With the additional knowledge I have gained in psychology, I can now understand my patients from a wider perspective. This has helped me assess their needs better and plan interventions that are more holistic and appropriate to each individual. OUM is an institution that is well suited to working adults like me. My experience has shown me that age, background and time should never be barriers to pursuing our aspirations.

As a cancer survivor, I found deeper purpose in my education. It motivated me to advocate for psychosocial support for cancer patients through my work at the Colorectal Cancer Survivorship Society Malaysia. My final-year research on cognitive behavioural therapy to reduce anxiety in a colorectal cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy was presented at the National Cancer Congress 2026 and will be published in a Scopus-indexed journal. Returning to study after 30 years, I found OUM an encouraging space to build practical skills.
Certified Patient Navigator
Undergraduate
I have been teaching young children for 11 years and have helped develop confident pupils through competitions, including the national-level Alpha Gen Talent @KEMAS programme in 2025. Receiving an Outstanding Employee Award during my studies reinforced my belief that educators must continue learning to improve themselves and provide better education. As a mother of two, balancing work, studies and family strengthened my time management and independence, while teaching me to value the support of family and friends.

After completing my Diploma in Shariah and Usuluddin, I decided to further my religious knowledge at the next level. So I enrolled in the BIS programme at OUM. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”

My ambition was to work in medicine so that I could save lives. Later, I realised that I could do that through the field of OSH as well. I’m glad that I chose OUM because it not only gave me flexibility but also experienced and approachable lecturers, and coursemates from various professions, enabling me to learn from their work experiences and perspectives.

With a Diploma in Electronic Engineering and a Safety and Health Officer Certificate, I began my career as a HSE Technician. One of my greatest achievements was contributing to the company’s Gold recognition at the Malaysian Industrial Safety and Health Association (MiSHA) Asia Excellence Award 2025. OUM’s flexible online learning has strengthened my knowledge and skills while enabling me to balance work and studies.
